Day 2: This is a 1-day comprehensive training program with an innovative approach in the training methodology to equip participants with the fundamentals in conducting an effective investigation. Critical knowledge and skills like spotting suspicious activities, field inquiries, identifying and gathering of evidence are taught including the legal constraints.
Outline: 0930 – 1130: FIELD INVESTIGATION TECHNIQUES
  1. Gathering information
  2. Basic surveillance
  3. Types of covert (sting) operations

Not all investigations can be resolved through conventional methods. Increasingly undercover operations are being conducted against offenders who conduct illegal activities adopting syndicated methods to prevent detection. Often such cases are solved through information supplied by informers or gathered through skillful surveillance. In some cases it is even necessary to trap the professional culprits by turning the tables on them using the same covert techniques they use or with the latest investigation technology.

1130 – 1500: LEGAL REQUIREMENTS & DOCUMENTATION (Lunch: 1230 – 1330)
  1. Legal issues relating to investigations
  2. Evidential requirements
  3. Investigation standard and reports

This module covers the legal requirements imposed on investigations and the evidence obtained. To prove your case it is necessary to understand the legal requirements especially in terms of the evidence needed to support the case and conducting a fair and proper investigation including the documentation process and final report that will provide a definitive course of action. Also included are the best practices in preparing your case for Court or other review committee.

1500 – 1730: INTERROGATION TECHNIQUES

  1. Understanding the psychological factors in conducting an interrogation
  2. 5 step perception creator Ó interrogation process in getting an admission or confession
  3. Scenario practical application (customizable to participants requirements)
This module is unequivocally the highlight of the course. Though it is the most difficult skill to learn, I have adapted the training to allow practitioners to acquire the fundamental skills and with practice, they can achieve reasonable proficiency in its application. As this program is for non-enforcement practitioners, the tactics have been specially adapted to what I called, “civil interrogation”. Essentially it is the art of persuasion convincing the suspect that admission (or confession) is his best option.
